Why we are moving
The Public Health Center was built nearly 70 years ago. Even with regular county maintenance and upgrades, the building at 555 Cedar no longer meets basic clinical, operational or service standards for community or staff.
Capital investment options have been explored to address structural issues, system replacements, and clinic renovations and would not be a prudent use of taxpayer funds.
The county has been looking for a new site to relocate Public Health services for several years. None of the options the county has explored downtown have fit clinical service needs in terms of space, layout or parking. The availability of the Maplewood site, which previously housed a medical clinic, provided an ideal location requiring minimal capital investment and the ability to move this year.
Public Health services will be provided for Saint Paul and Ramsey County residents at the new clinic, mobile sites and through community outreach.
Public Health remains committed to serving Saint Paul and Ramsey County residents and will continue to do so from fixed and mobile sites. Public Health work currently occurs in multiple locations across the city of Saint Paul and other cities in the county – at WIC clinics, at libraries and other partner sites, neighborhood locations and events through our CareVan.
