Paper Shredding Events

Bring confidential papers to an upcoming paper shredding event. Free paper shredding events are held throughout the year for Ramsey County residents.

Note: Only sensitive materials should get shredded. General household paper and mail is accepted year-round at the Environmental Center recycling wall for recycling.

Drop-off procedures

Ramsey County residents can bring up to three boxes of paper (weighing no more than 50 pounds each) to shred. Shred Right will shred all papers onsite and recycle them.

Accepted: Staples and paper clips attached to paper are okay. They do not have to be removed.

NOT Accepted: Three-ring binders, plastic bags and large metal binder clips are not accepted with the papers to be shredded. 

  • Follow signs at the Environmental Center to find the event.
  • Show proof of Ramsey County residency.
  • Stage paper in the trunk, cargo bed or rear of vehicle for easy access.
  • Remain in your vehicle while staff unload.

How paper shredding events work

Ramsey County works with Shred Right to securely recycle confidential documents by using a crosscut, two-way shredding system and storing shredded materials in an enclosed and monitored vault. Shred Right is AAA-NAID Certified and provides secure paper shredding, handling, and recycling services for our events.

At Ramsey County’s paper shredding events, paper will be emptied into 96-gallon containers, and when those reach capacity, they will be emptied directly into the shredding truck for destruction. Attendees will not be able to see any of their documents shredded in the truck.

Notes about paper shredding

  • Do not drop off paper for shredding outside of these events.
  • Do not recycle shredded paper at home. Shredded paper is too small to get sorted at recycling facilities.
